Custom Orthotic Fabrication: What you need to know

Although splints can be bought online or at the pharmacy, hand therapists can fabricate splints based on your anatomical features, swelling, and condition. Different types of splints can be used to promote immobilization, improve mobility, or protect joints. Kendra starts by cutting out the proper pattern with thermoplastic material and then mold it to the client. As it cools, straps, velcro, and padding are added to promote comfort and appropriate sizing. Speak with your physician to see if you qualify for custom splinting.

Splinting is Kendra's favorite part of what she does. Each client's anatomy and condition is unique allowing her the creativity to achieve a perfect fit.  Kendra loves teaching splinting to her students and new hires with hopes of helping others learn a new passion.
